Coach Pete Wright

Pete-Wright1.jpgIn 1984 my wife Vicki found Silk & Sable Mounted Drill Team and decided to join. It was all English riding at the time. Not knowing anything about it I made great sport of her little riding outfit and shiny black boots, but when we went to a drill team competition I saw the team, heard the music and was hooked! From that point on I have been a part of this team in one way or another. At first I was just her groom, but as time went by there were a lot more things I was able to contribute. As it turned out I had a real talent for choreography and eventually took over the management and coaching. The team has since become a LLC and other members have stepped up to take over some of my jobs and I am able to devote my time to coaching the team. The drill team has been a great activity for my family as my wife and two daughters ride on the team. It is something we can do all together. Traveling with the team to different places where we perform and compete is very exciting and a lot of fun! The costumes are beautiful our theme is exciting, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.

Silk & Sable LLC has been a part of my life since 1984! Over the years I have been a part of winning 3 state championships performed in numerous events. I am the current Business Manager and design and Click to viewsew all the horse and rider costumes for the team. For me, drill team is a family event. My husband coaches us and my 2 grown daughters also ride. I have the privilege of owning a beautiful ½ Andalusian named Doc’s Mateo De Apollo II (Mateo for short). We have so much fun as a team; if you haven’t tried mounted drill team riding you don’t know what you’re missing! Give it a try…you won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face!

Lisa Pratt

Click to viewHi, my name is Lisa Pratt and I have been a member of Silk & Sable LLC for almost 4 years now.
I was just voted on as the President of the team and I am also the wardrobe mistress.
I really enjoy riding with S&S because the level of difficulty is such a challenge and the costumes are beautiful & flashy. It is not easy to ride holding a lance and still maneuvering you horse while learning the drill. Also, not to forget the fact that I ride with a great group of women who have all become good friends.
The horse I ride for drill is a 12 year old Quarter/Paso named CoCo who I bought when he was 3. CoCo is extra special to me because when he was 6 he foundered and wasn't able to be ridden for 2 years, in fact, we didn't know if he would ever be able to be ridden again. But by the grace of God and a great farrier he is able to not only be ridden, but ridden on the drill team!!
There have been relapses and abscesses but luckily he has pulled through and I totally enjoy riding him in drill and on the trails.

P.S. PURPLE RULES!!!

I have been riding with Silk & Sable, LLC drill team since I was 14, so I have been a member for 18 years. Although the drill team has changed in many ways during that time, I continue to be loyal to it because of the love of the sport, the people involved, the theme of this particular team and the experts that comprise the management of the team. It also helps that my Mother and Sister ride on the team as well and my Father is the coach. It is a nice way to spend time with my family. I have been riding since I can remember...probably since about 2 or 3 (as soon as my mom could put me on a horse). I have two horses currently, the one I ride on the drill team is a Black & White Paint horse Gelding named Santiago, a very trusty and worthy steed and the other (a feisty & lively white Quarter Horse Mare named Holly) which has recently been retired due to her age (although you'd never know it by watching her in action). I have filled many positions on the drill team, but mostly I have been the Captain. I am currently on a leave of absence due to pregnancy but remain involved with the team as their Secretary until I can ride again.

Petra StellaPetra Hublot

Hello, everyone!
My name is Petra Hublot and I'm now 4 years and a bit more in the Team, I was riding the past years a horse of the Wright family, graciously given at my disposition. This upcoming season now I'm riding my own horse now! Stella Doble is her name, a half Andalusian / half Arabian mare which I'm working and riding now since one year. I've been riding for years and years in Europe, been member of a Spanish Show Riding Team in France and love the spirit of the Drill Team! It's fun, riding with music and under the theme of the Musketeers!
When you practice Drill you give your horse a ‘’job’’, something to learn and to work on, this changes your riding routine and you bond stronger with your horse, that’s what I love, it creates a wonderful relationship. Come and join the team with your horse, you both will enjoy this!

Jackie Dracup

Click to viewI heard about Silk and Sable from Lisa Wedin, a former coworker, in 2004 and went along to watch. I joined the team later that year, and I have served as the Team Treasurer since 2006.
Unfortunately, I don't own my own horse, but I am currently borrowing Santiago while Christina is on maternity leave. When I can't borrow a horse, I squire.
I look forward to drill practice and show up even if I'm not riding; it can be challenging, but it's also fun. Also, the team is great to be around.

For work I am a Dog Trainer: I go to people’s homes and teach and train their dogs. Approximately 15 dogs a week. I have owned my business for 20 years. Jackie Powell

Click to viewHi, my name is Jackie Powell and my horse is Sir Lancelot, a ¾ Andalusian. I started with Silk & Sable when I was a little girl. I used to carry the banner, squire and do all sorts of odd jobs for the team. (My Mom made me ha! Ha!) As soon as I was old enough to join as a riding member I did and have been riding with them ever since! My Mom and sister also ride on the team and my Dad is the coach so when I say we are like one big family, I really mean it!

Lancelot and I have been pals from the time of his birth 7 years ago. I taught him all he knows (both good and bad). He can do a few cool tricks such as the Spanish walk, and will pick the lance up from the ground and hand it to me while I’m on his back, which we use in our drill performances.

 Peg Knowles

For the better part of 35 years, my attention has been focused primarily on Barrel Racing and Pole Bending. I have accomplished many goals, and have been very successful in this arena.

Click to viewMy Appaloosa (Shooter) didn't meet my Gymkahana expectations once grown.. He has a big heart, great attitude, and wants to please. However, he just didn't have the top end speed I needed.  Not wanting to part with him I set out to find a sport he could be successful in. I found the Silk & Sable Drill Horse Team.  We tried it, and have had the pleasure of being a team
member since September 2006.

I have enjoyed learning new things.  I feel the team members, including our Coach are  family. We all work together and strive to be the best we can be, while still having fun.

I urge you to come and visit with us on Monday evenings.  You may enjoy the camaraderie, get your horse in shape and enjoy yourself. What do you have to

loose?

Click to viewI am lucky enough to ride a very handsome 7 year-old Morgan who goes by the name of Hank (thanks to the generosity of my great friend, Lisa Pratt, Hank's owner).  I began riding at the age of three and spent approximately 20 years riding hunters and jumpers competitively.  In the last five years, I began riding again casually and last year I was coerced to join the team...something I am glad about now, as it has turned out to be a great deal of fun.
